I am thrilled to share my transformative experience during my clinical elective at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre, where I had the privilege of working under the guidance of an amazing clinician, Dr. Usman Khan. Throughout my 4-week placement, Dr. Khan exemplified the qualities of an exceptional physician and mentor. I had the opportunity to witness and learn about a wide range of advanced procedures, develop proficient skills in interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs), and engage in scholarly activities. I was exposed to a wide range of challenging cases, from complex cardiac surgeries to the management of acute cardiovascular conditions. Dr. Khan’s commitment to evidence-based practice and attention to detail inspired me to strive for excellence in my own medical journey.
During my time at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre, I had the honor of giving a presentation on the clinical and prognostic relevance of cardiac wasting in patients with advanced cancer, drawing from the prestigious Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). Presenting my findings to a distinguished audience of healthcare professionals was a truly rewarding experience. It allowed me to delve into the emerging field of cardiac wasting, explore its implications for patient outcomes, and contribute to the scientific discourse in the field of cardiology.
In addition to the scholarly pursuit, I also had the opportunity to learn about the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre. Gaining proficiency in this digital healthcare tool provided me with a comprehensive understanding of how technology enhances patient care and streamlines clinical processes. It was fascinating to witness firsthand how the EMR system optimizes healthcare delivery and improves patient outcomes.
Being appointed as the coordinator at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre was an incredible honor and a truly rewarding experience. In this role, I took on the responsibilities of organizing and managing various aspects of the clinical setting, ensuring smooth operations, and fostering effective communication among the healthcare team. The opportunity to lead and coordinate a team within the medical field has significantly enhanced my leadership abilities, reinforcing my commitment to becoming an impactful healthcare professional.
During my time at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre, I had the opportunity to witness a range of advanced procedures, including varithena, venaseal, radiofrequency ablation, and peripheral angiography. Observing these procedures firsthand was an awe-inspiring experience, as I witnessed the cutting-edge techniques and innovative interventions that are transforming cardiovascular medicine. The exposure to such procedures broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of interventional cardiology.
One of the highlights of my experience at Epic Heart and Vascular Centre was the invaluable opportunity to learn and interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs).
