I had the privilege of completing a four-week rotation in interventional
cardiology during the month of March 2024 with Dr. Usman Khan, and I
must say that it was an invaluable experience. Throughout the
observership, I had the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Khan who
is not only expert in his field but also deeply committed to teaching and
mentoring.
The observership provided me with a comprehensive exposure to
various interventional procedures, including coronary angiography,
percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), VenaSeal, Venous
Ultrasound and Radiofrequency thermal ablation along with
interpretation of complex cardiovascular tests like nuclear stress test,
Echo and EKG.
Dr. Khan involved us in learning new clinical practices and had us
deliver presentations on topics such as Duke treadmill score,
Antiarrhythmic drugs, Lerieche syndrome, AHA guidelines on stable
ischemic heart disease, various CVS benefits of SGLT-2 drugs and their
significance.
Through this observership I got both the hospital and clinic exposure.
Dr. khan was very kind to take me with him to the hospital rounds
where I observed various procedures like cardioversion, bubble study,
peripheral vessel orbital atherectomy for PAD and transesophageal
echocardiogram. Dr. Khan even asked his colleagues to let us observe
any new procedures like Micra implantation procedure and atrial flutter
ablation. Furthermore, Dr. Khan provided us with thorough instruction
on utilizing the EMR system daily and allowed us to practice daily by
entering patient details.
