I am honored to work with Dr. Usman Khan, a great cardiologist and a great mentor. I had the pleasure of rotating at Epic heart and vascular system and HCA Houston health care north west for four weeks in Jan 2023.
During my elective I was exposed to a wide range of clinical experience that allowed me to witness the workings of a cardiovascular care facility. I had an opportunity to observe various interventional cardiology procedures like I observed procedures like cardiac catheterization and had the chance to see and learn about carotid doppler, arterial and venous duplex scans. I observed a variety of chronic venous insufficiency treatment methods including radiofrequency thermal ablation, venaseal and varithena. Patient rounds provided me with a comprehensive understanding of complexities associated with cardiac care.
I learned how to interpret echo and stress test results. I learned how to do clinical reasoning and improve my diagnosing abilities, accurately assessing cardiac conditions and formulating appropriate treatment plans.
During my rotation, my Dr. took out time to personally mentor me in reading EKGs and made sure that i understood all complexities of interpreting electrocardiograms. The resources available enabled me to gain hands on exposure and develop a deeper understanding of cardiovascular medicine.
We also had weekly student presentations on latest guidelines to discuss research. I had the opportunity to present case reports. I presented on newly published article “pregnancy and preclampsia are associated with acute adverse peripheral arterial events”
Dr. Khan is a very kind human being and he made sure that every student gains knowledge so he taught us EMR and how health care system works in US. His qualities of teamwork are amazing and i was fortunate to learn under his guidance and I highly recommend this rotation to every student coming to US.
