I had the opportunity to rotate with Dr. Usman Khan in May, 2023. On my first day we had discussion about the educational and personal background and application process and publications. Initially Dr. Khan asked me one question i.e., “what do you expect from this rotation” and I answered that In addition to the patient care and knowledge about EMR I wanted to learn ECG, Nuclear stress test, ECHO and Doppler. You were remarkable in making sure that I had a chance of learning these. I really admire the way you taught the ECG and stress test particularly “read the ECG in 30 sec”.

When I had the opportunity to learn ECHO you specifically asked me to learn basics before entering the room so that I could learn specifics in a better way. You improved my way of learning and taught so many things that gave me the opportunity to gain the confidence in cardiology and I really thankful for that. In addition to Dr. Khan’s guidance, the Echo technician at Epic Heart and Vascular, played a pivotal role in my learning journey. She patiently introduced me to the world of echocardiograms and taught me the fundamental techniques involved in performing and interpreting these vital diagnostic tests. Her expertise and willingness to answer my questions allowed me to develop a strong foundation in echocardiography.

I had the opportunity to present a clinical trial from New England journal on the topic of “BEMPEDOIC ACID AND CARDIOVASCULAR OUTCOMES IN STATIN INTOLERANT PATIENTS”. On this topic we had almost 30 min of discussion and you gave me the homework on particular statin and other antihyperlipidemic drugs which we discussed on later date.

I had the great time in learning the EMR and the patient history taking skills and the particular way of writing the case notes. I was really inspired by the way of writing the case notes. The only place where I had the opportunity to see the Cath lab and procedures and it gave me the enthusiasm and more interest to learn the things which I love the most in particularly cardiology. In my first week only I saw varithena and ablation procedure where I was really surprised by seeing the improvement in patient symptoms by next visit. I saw advanced cutting edge procedures like TEE, Left and right heart Cath, radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy.

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to stay at your accommodation which provided me good relationship building with the diverse background people and cultures which improved my communication skills and also I really enjoyed the time.

Your willingness to collaborate and share your expertise has fostered an environment of trust and mutual respect. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your mentorship over the past four weeks. Your generosity and expertise have made a significant difference in my life, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to be mentored by you. I look forward to staying in touch and continuing to learn from you in the future.
