I had the privilege of being a medical observer at Epic Heart and Vascular, and my time there was truly invaluable. Dr. Khan and the entire team at Epic Heart and Vascular provided me with an extraordinary learning experience that exceeded my expectations.
Although I have had a multitude of experiences elsewhere doing observerships and at my medical school at Aga khan, this experience indeed left a lasting impression on me as a medical professional.
During my observation period, Dr. Khan took the time to personally mentor me in the intricacies of reading EKGs. His expertise and patience were remarkable, and he guided me through the process, ensuring that I understood the nuances and complexities of interpreting electrocardiograms. His dedication to teaching and his willingness to share his knowledge left a lasting impression on me.
I had the opportunity to firsthand see and learn about the EMR use in the United States, moreover, I saw advanced cutting edge procedures like TEE, Left and right heart Cath, radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy among others.
The academic environment at EPIC heart and vascular was incredible as I progressed by leaps during a mere 4 week stay there, I had the opportunity to present case reports and present on newly published articles in cardiovascular care like “percutaneous coronary intervention without interruption of oral anticoagulation” among other guidelines presented. My EKG and various cardiological stress test interpretation skills improved; as I was able to ask questions and read up new guidelines on patient care.
Moreover, I was responsible for coordinating the schedules and manage the responsibilities of other people working there; I feel that it was essential in leadership building skills and brought the best out of me as a leader and a team person.
In addition to Dr. Khan’s guidance, the Echo technician at Epic Heart and Vascular, played a pivotal role in my learning journey. She patiently introduced me to the world of echocardiograms and taught me the fundamental techniques involved in performing and interpreting these vital diagnostic tests. Her expertise and willingness to answer my questions allowed me to develop a strong foundation in echocardiography.
The state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology at Epic Heart and Vascular were instrumental in enhancing my learning experience. The resources available enabled me to gain hands-on exposure and develop a deeper understanding of cardiovascular medicine.
I am immensely grateful to Dr. Khan, for his dedication to teaching and commitment to excellence. The knowledge and skills I acquired during my time with them have undoubtedly shaped my future in medicine.
