I had the incredible privilege of spending the month of September at Epic Heart and Vascular, and the experience was genuinely invaluable. The entire Epic Heart and Vascular team graciously provided me with an extraordinary learning opportunity that exceeded all my expectations.
During my time at the Epic Heart and Vascular Center, I was profoundly impressed by the exemplary work ethic exhibited by Dr. Khan and his dedicated team. On clinic days, I had the honor of conducting patient examinations and gathering medical histories from individuals coping with a wide spectrum of cardiovascular issues, including conditions such as hypertension, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, myocardial infarction, varicose veins, and hyperlipidemia. Following this, I actively participated in discussions concerning medication compliance and diligently recorded patient data within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).Furthermore, this rotation afforded me numerous opportunities to witness and acquire invaluable insights into various diagnostic procedures, including nuclear stress scans,Echocardiography, carotid Doppler, as well as arterial and venous duplex scans. The clinic’s nurturing and supportive atmosphere cultivated a profound sense of teamwork andcollaboration among all team members.
Dr. Khan consistently shared priceless insights with me, particularly in the realm of EKG interpretation, and generously provided the essential resources to make well-informed career decisions, all while affording me the autonomy to explore. His unwavering support proved to be of immeasurable value, and I wholeheartedly cherished the learning experience under his mentorship.
During this rotation, our team also seized the opportunity to discuss the new 2023AHA/ACC/ACCP/ASPC/NLA/PCNA Guideline for the Management of Patients with Chronic Coronary Disease. I had the privilege of presenting the section on Medical Therapy to Prevent Cardiovascular Events and Manage Symptoms within these guidelines. Furthermore, I had the honor of explaining the RoPE score to my colleagues, elucidating its usage and relevance. Moreover, throughout my hospital experience, Dr. Khan consistently encouraged our active participation within the team, whether it entailed responsibilities such as localizing diseased vessels, calculating pressures, or simply enjoying moments together in the cafeteria.
In summary, the most profound lesson I derived from this experience underscores the immense significance of effective communication. Dr. Khan consistently upholds an outstanding rapport with his patients, embodying compassion, empathy, and professionalism. These qualities have deeply resonated with me throughout this rotation, and I aspire to nurture and develop them as I progress in my career. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly endorse this experience to any student seeking profound insights into the healthcare system of the USA.
