During March 2024, I had the opportunity to complete a four-week rotation in interventional cardiology under the mentorship of Dr M. Usman khan, an expert in the field. Throughout this period, I gained valuable exposure to a wide range of interventional procedures, including coronary angiography, PCI, venous ultrasound, as well as the interpretation of various cardiovascular tests such as nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms, and EKGs.
Throughout the observership, I actively engaged in learning new clinical practices and was encouraged to present on topics such as low-dose colchicine for secondary prevention of coronary artery disease, the Duke Treadmill Score, beta blockers, calcium scoring, and the AHA guidelines for stable ischemic heart disease.
The observership not only provided me with clinical exposure but also a comprehensive view of hospital procedures. This included observing various procedures such as cardioversion, bubble studies, as well as witnessing innovative procedures such as micra implantation and atrial flutter ablation.
Furthermore, detailed guidance was offered on efficiently using the EMR system, and we were given the opportunity to gain practical experience by entering patient details routinely.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Dr. Khan and gain invaluable experience under his mentorship.
