I am pleased to write this testimonial for my 4 weeks of rotation experience with Dr. Usman Khan at both the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic. During this period, I had the privilege of learning and observing a wide range of medical procedures and diagnostic techniques, which greatly enhanced my knowledge and skills.<\/p>\n
Under Dr. Khan\u2019s guidance, I gained valuable experience in taking patients\u2019 history and familiarized myself with the efficient use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). I was fortunate to witness various procedures, including radio-frequency ablation, Varithena, and Venaseal for varicose veins treatment. Additionally, I observed arterial and venous ultrasounds as well as carotid dopplers, enabling me to learn how to diagnose patients with venous insufficiency and arterial thrombus.<\/p>\n
One notable case that stood out was a patient who presented with shortness of breath and had two stents. During the catheterization procedure, we discovered restenosis of one stent in the right coronary artery (RCA). I witnessed Dr. Khan\u2019s expertise as he performed balloon catheterization, successfully resolving the problem. This experience highlighted the importance of intervention in cardiac procedures and provided me with valuable insights into patient care.<\/p>\n
Dr. Khan also dedicated time to teach me how to interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), explaining each point meticulously. Thanks to his guidance, I can now confidently read and analyze EKGs, an essential skill in cardiology.<\/p>\n
Moreover, I had the opportunity to present a topic titled \u201cContinued Progress in Therapy for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension\u201d from the New England Journal of Medicine. This experience expanded my knowledge base and honed my presentation skills, which are crucial in effectively communicating medical information.<\/p>\n
During my rotation, I also observed a right heart catheterization procedure in a patient with increased pulmonary arterial pressures. This case presented a range of differential diagnoses, allowing me to broaden my understanding of various conditions.<\/p>\n
In conclusion, my one-month rotation with Dr. Usman Khan was an invaluable learning experience. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to observe and participate in a variety of medical procedures, learn how to diagnose and treat patients, interpret EKGs, and enhance my overall knowledge in the field of cardiology. Dr. Khan\u2019s expertise, guidance, and commitment to teaching have had a profound impact on my professional development.
